Terms of service

These terms govern your use of Becoming, a subscription-based interactive fiction service operated by Living Pages Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”). By using Becoming, you agree to these terms.

The service

Becoming provides AI-generated interactive and read-aloud stories for children aged 2–11. Adventures (ages 5–11) are choice-driven — you make decisions; the story responds. Read Together (ages 2–4) are short stories shaped by parent and child together. Stories are generated fresh for each user and are not stored on our servers beyond what is necessary to maintain your session.

Your account

You must be 18 or over to create an account. You must provide an accurate email address when creating an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. We reserve the right to suspend accounts that misuse the service or attempt to circumvent access controls.

Subscription

Becoming is a subscription service, available on a monthly or annual basis. Subscriptions include up to 200 chapters per calendar month. Your subscription renews automatically until cancelled — you will receive a reminder from our payment processor before each renewal charge. You may cancel at any time through your account settings — cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you retain access until then.

Acceptable use

You may use Becoming for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not attempt to extract, reproduce, or redistribute the AI-generated content at scale; reverse-engineer the system prompts or model interactions; use the service to generate content that violates applicable law; or share account access with others.

Content

Becoming uses AI to generate fiction for children. The stories are imaginative and may not reflect real events, people, or institutions. All content is designed to be age-appropriate and free from adult themes. We do not endorse any views expressed in generated content.

Children and parental responsibility

Becoming is designed for readers aged 2–11. If you are subscribing on behalf of a child, you are responsible for ensuring the service is appropriate for them. We encourage parents and guardians to read stories alongside younger readers.

Availability

We aim to keep Becoming available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may carry out maintenance, updates, or improvements that temporarily affect availability. We will not charge you for periods of extended unavailability that are within our control.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email. Continued use of the service after notice constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

Privacy policy

Living Pages Limited is the data controller for personal data collected through Becoming. We take your privacy seriously and collect only what we need to provide the service.

What we collect

  • Account data — your email address, used to identify your account and send you service communications.
  • Subscription data — billing information handled by Stripe (our payment processor). We do not store card details.
  • Story data — character configurations and story progress you create within the app, stored locally in your browser and optionally synced to our database to allow you to resume across devices.
  • Usage data — basic information about how you use the service, used to improve it. This includes which features you use and how often, not the content of your stories.

What we do not collect

  • We do not sell your data to third parties.
  • We do not use your story content to train AI models.
  • We do not track you across other websites.
  • We do not use advertising cookies.

How we use your data

  • To provide and maintain your subscription.
  • To send you transactional emails (receipts, account notifications).
  • To improve the service based on aggregate usage patterns.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

Third parties

Stripe — our payment processor. Stripe handles payment processing and related compliance. Their privacy policy applies to payment data: stripe.com/gb/privacy.

Anthropic — the AI provider that generates story content. Story prompts are transmitted to Anthropic’s API to generate text. Anthropic’s usage policies apply: anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

Supabase — our database provider. Story data synced to our servers is stored via Supabase, hosted in the EU (West Europe). Data stored in the EU is subject to GDPR-equivalent protections.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data; to object to or restrict processing; and to data portability. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@yourbecoming.app. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to comply with legal obligations. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time.

Cookies

Becoming uses only functional cookies necessary to keep you logged in and maintain your session. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

Refund policy

Becoming is a digital content subscription. The following policy applies to all subscriptions purchased through Becoming.

The short version: cancel any time — no future charges, access continues to the end of your billing period. Annual subscribers can request a refund within 30 days, less one month’s fee (£5.99).

Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you will not be charged again, and you retain full access to the service until your period expires. Cancellation is handled automatically.

Refunds — monthly subscriptions

Monthly subscriptions are non-refundable. You may cancel at any time and retain access until the end of your current billing period.

Refunds — annual subscriptions

If you subscribed on an annual plan and wish to cancel within 30 days of your purchase date, you may request a partial refund. We will refund the annual fee less one month’s equivalent (£5.99), reflecting the period during which you had access to the service. To request a refund, email us at hello@yourbecoming.app within 30 days of purchase with the subject line ‘Annual refund request’.

Technical issues

If a technical fault on our part prevents you from accessing the service for an extended period, please contact us at hello@yourbecoming.app and we will consider a proportionate remedy on a case-by-case basis.
